The Castell de Bellver, with its special shape as a circular defense structure (built in Catalan Gothic), is unique in Spain. The fortress towers 112 m above Palma and offers a fantastic view of the capital of the island, over the bay of Palma de Mallorca with cathedrals and port.
Commissioned by Jaime II, the main part of the castle was built by the architect Pere Salvá between 1300 and 1310. The castle has Romanesque arcades around the inner courtyard and a Gothic portico on the upper floor. Today there is a museum in the fortress of the castle.
