Information Center Archipiélago de Cabrera, Colonia Sant Jordi
Let yourself be impressed by the underwater world and the landscape in the natural park of the archipelago of Cabrera on an informative tour in an artistically designed building.
This information center has been available to the public since July 1st, 2008. The visitor is guided in an original way and in different stages through the underwater world and the land with the associated fauna and flora, so that one can get a very good impression of the islands of Cabrera even without boarding a boat.
The building is an impressive mixture of Mallorcan tradition and modernity. The highlight is the main building by Miguel Masanet, which is modeled on a Mallorcan tower from the Tayalot period. Two round glass elevators transport the visitor to the present day.
In the cave-like basement, Cabrera's abundance of fish is shown in a large number of smaller and one large aquarium. Then you can look the fish in the eye in a 3-D demonstration. The glass elevator then takes you through the aquarium up to the demonstration room with information about the rural residents and the associated flora. From the upper platform you have a very nice view over to the island of Cabrera.
A spiral way then leads down to the exit. On the walls, the human history of the Mediterranean is represented artistically. The panels attached to the railing explain the paintings, unfortunately only in Spanish.
Both children and adults are enthusiastic about this successful tour, so you should not miss the opportunity to visit this center.
